We’re a musical melting pot, reggae, ska, flamenco, Latin, and rock all stirred together with a whole lot of heart. Our sound reflects the wild and winding road we’ve traveled, shaped along the way by collaborations with incredible musicians who’ve become more than just bandmates. They are family!

As we started gaining media attention, our sound was called “world pop,” probably because it didn’t fit neatly into any category, blending diverse styles and rhythms.

At the core of it all are us, sisters Melody and Safoura Safavi. We write songs that blend global grooves with lyrics full of wit, soul, and defiance. Singing mostly in Persian, but also in English, Spanish, and Swedish, we explore love, politics, and everything in between, always with a beat that moves you and a message that sticks.

“Abjee” is an old Persian slang word for “sister.” And that’s exactly who we are, We’ve been making music together since the late ’90s.

Our journey began as a playful sisterly game in our own bedroom, with no thought of recording, releasing songs, or stepping on a stage. Safoura composed the music, and Melody wrote the lyrics to her melodies. What started as simple fun quickly grew into something much bigger, fueled by the unwavering support of family and friends, and sparking a musical adventure that’s carried us across cultures and continents.

Besides love, what connects us most is humor. We find something to laugh about in almost everything, even in hardship, and especially in life’s more complex moments. Our motto is simple: life’s too short to take too seriously. Let inspiration guide you, and ride the flow of the moment. With the world spinning into madness, being a little bit of a fool might help you navigate it, and keep your heart open through the chaos.

We’ve always been a DIY band, not just out of necessity, but by choice. Taking on everything ourselves has been a way to protect our artistic freedom. It hasn’t always been easy, but we believe that true art can only come from the artist herselfunfiltered, undirected, and unapologetically honest.
